Olafsen-Lackey, S., Shapiro, C., Kranz, W., 2002. Agricultural Management Practices and the Groundwater System of Northern Holt County, Nebraska, With a Focus on the Holt County Groundwater Education Project (EC-15): 20 pp., size 8.5" x 11". Description: Continued increase of nitrates in the water beneath northern Holt County required a strategy to reduce leaching of nitrogen into groundwater. Cooperating agencies recognized the need to promote fertilizer and irrigation best management practices (BMPs), forming the Holt County Groundwater Education Project. Its purpose has been to increase awareness among producers about movement of nitrate into groundwater and demonstrate the viability of University of Nebraska BMPs.
